Use Criticism To Strengthen.

Writing book #3. I sent it to an objective editor, and she shredded it. With almost every critique I had to admit she was right; it could be improved.

“The trouble with most of us is that we’d rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” – Norman Vincent Peale

There will be plenty telling you how to do better. You could label all these people as haters and ignore them. Or, you can use their criticism to improve.

Most view criticism as an attack. We instinctively jump to defend ourselves or demonize the critic. But that will close our mind and ignore what others see.

The problem is, criticism is often infused in truth.

As bright and skilled as you are, there’s always room for improvement. We all have blind spots. Sure, some criticism will be wrong. But it can still be valuable; it can help you see your actions from another’s view. If one sees it that way, others will see it that way.

The key is to turn criticism into something beneficial. Ask yourself: Ditching my ego, what can I learn from this perspective? Can I improve?

It rarely feels good to hear that you’re wrong. When it happens, remember: Praise feels good. But it’s those who challenge you, that will help you grow. Those that bluntly tell you the truth, even if it hurts, are those that care.
