You Can Steer Yourself Any Direction You Choose.

Some fun facts about one of my all-time favorite authors, the one and only Dr. Seuss. Did you know:

1. The Seuss book IF I RAN THE ZOO introduced us to the word NERD.
2. A friend bet Seuss $50 that he couldn’t write a book using just 50 words or less. GREEN EGGS AND HAM was born.
3. It took over a year for Seuss to write THE CAT IN THE HAT. While THE LORAX, took less than forty-five minutes.

The foolish, fun, and fascinating world of Seuss has been the answer of many exhausted parents at their wit’s end with rambunctious toddlers. But may I suggest you revisit some of these classics and take 4-5 minutes and read them at your next corporate retreat.

My personal favorite – OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO by Dr. Seuss

“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go…”

I strongly encourage you to get a copy and read the entire book. If you have read it before, read it again. Read it to your teams. No matter how executive you are, Seuss’s wisdom is timeless and applicable.

Today is your day — your mountain awaits.
