The Life You Live vs. The Life You Reveal?

The Life You Live vs The Life You Reveal

I have a Jekyll/Hyde rapport with social media. On the Jekyll side, social media generates healthy human connection, content, and commerce. But, there’s a dark Hyde side.

The dark side is the mask of perfection. We’re all guilty of promoting this mask. Social media is flooded with carefully angled/posed/filtered photos, delicious meals, gorgeous vacations, and Norman Rockwell-ish family gatherings. But that is a fraction of what is truly happening.

FACT – Some seem to be living jet-set lives while drowning in debt. Some families/couples appear happy, and yet they quietly endure in despair. Some have Greek-God like physiques, while emotionally they are on their last thread. Some with few likes have many real friends, while others have countless likes, and are dangerously alone.

Let’s attempt to be a tad more authentic. Look back at your posts? Are you telling the entire story? Vacations are great, but we all know there are detours, accidents, delays, and bumps along the road. Along with the mouthwatering ribeye, occasionally share the dried-out burger and wilted lettuce on a stale bun. We all know they are there.

Don’t just give the highlights of your game of life. Also, share some of the mundane 2-yard runs, mistakes, and penalties along with those touchdowns.
