Nostalgic Memories Make Me Smile

Nostalgic Memories Make Me Smile

I went to my 40th high school reunion. Good memories & great friends. While driving by my childhood home; I told my wife, “That fire-hydrant was always our base.” She laughed & said, “it is sad; our kids would have no clue what that means.”

My kids have never:

  1. Played night games (tag, hide-n-seek, etc.) with neighborhood friends
  2. Learned English while watching cartoons. “Conjunction junction what’s your function”
  3. Passed notes in class
  4. Wistfully browsed the Sears Christmas catalog every November
  5. Carried a dime for an emergency call
  6. Fixed a playing card in their bike spokes
  7. Adjusted the TV antenna while on the roof
  8. Listened to the radio, waiting to record a song
  9. Knew the sensation of having only a handful of TV stations
  10. Used an encyclopedia for homework
  11. Talked to a phone operator
  12. Browsed Tower Records for hours to buy the latest “cool” album
  13. Stretched the long kitchen phone cord to a hall closet for privacy
  14. Used a foldout map
  15. Dropped film off for developing
  16. Called “time” to get the correct time
  17. Used the yellow pages
  18. Used a typewriter to write a school paper
  19. Watched American Band Stand & Soul Train
  20. Used a pencil to rewind a cassette

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened. – Dr. Seuss
